No, no, don't be embarrassed! I'm honored to be mistaken for them, you have truly made my day, good sir.
Don't apologize, truly. If you know them as I do, you'd understand it's hardly an insult in any form. [He took the offered hand without hesitation, briefly enjoying the quick spark of manna that came of it] X'rhun Tia, and the pleasure is all mine, Ardbert.
I've so many questions, but before I inquire about this world, might I ask: How did you come to know the Warrior of Light?
[ But Ardbert laughs it off easily enough, shaking his hand with a nod. It's usually the easiest way to explain manna as well, so there you have it! ]
The story's a bit of a long one. [ Very long. Very, very long. ] Suffice to say, I'm of a similar trade. Adventuring, I mean. Our paths crossed many years past, and we worked alongside one another most recently.
[ It's a bit more sensical than going on about multiple worlds and shards right off the bath. ]
A fellow adventurer! I've heard tell that the Warrior oft receives the aid of others like them. Half their deeds would not have been accomplished without camaraderie, to hear them speak of it.
'Tis an honor then to make your acquaintance, I imagine so many owe a great deal to you. Whenever you have the time, I would love to hear all of your travels and adventures, alone and at the side of our mutual friend.
Ah, but I suppose I should be asking about here though, rather than begging you for for stories of home.
Indeed. Theirs is an immeasurable strength, but one made all the stronger by the aid of their friends.
[ He smiles. It's nice to think of it that way... and not like, the fact that he's literally a piece of the Warrior of Light now. But that's really big magic mumbo jumbo, we're gonna put that off. ]
Perhaps over drinks, if you've the time. [ A laugh. ] Though I agree, you've plenty to grow accustomed to, arriving here. Have they explained manna and that lot yet? You'll want to get a handle for it first.
I have nothing but time now, it would seem! Why, we could be on our way to the tavern right now, should you see fit. I can ask my questions as we walk there.
So far, I've heard some talk of manna and it's creation, yes. From it's necessity to what might happen, should I fail to create it. It may be that I might need to become comfortable with it's swift creation sooner, rather than later, considering how often I tap into my aether.
I've noticed, however, the various different gems affixed to people here. My own I caught earlier aboard the station. I've seen what chaos they are capable of sowing, thus far... That cannot be all they are capable of.
[ Certainly Ardbert's the one showing him around, so he motions for X'rhun to follow. ]
Aye, one may think of it as aether, in the simplest sense, since we can't use magic without it. And any manipulation of aether will most certainly drain it faster than you'd expect.
[ Don't overdo it, X'rhun! ]
That's right. Those are the gems we're bonded to, apparently. Each of the gods, except for this new one, Malachite, has claimed us, it seems. I myself have the ruby gem. It makes fire magics particularly easy to perform.
A lesson I was lucky enough to learn only gently upon the crater. I cast a few spells, only to find myself drained and tired far sooner than I'd ever experienced before. 'Tis a good thing I know still the feeling of overtaxing myself, though I fear for anyone unfamiliar with the sensation. It could have ended far worse. And I've found merely holding hands takes a great deal of time to restore even the small amount that I used.
[He's just coming to terms with the fact that he's going to need to get really friendly with some people here really fast.]
How fortuitous, I suppose. Ah, but your gem is ruby as well? I wonder then if verfire would have all the more impact to it... [And doesn't that sound like a thought being heavily considered!]
'Tis a question that's come up now more than once, I feel I should ask: is there a place here fit for training? Somewhere where someone might freely cast magic without causing any damage or alarm?
[ Yeep, that's about right, buddy. Gonna have to get real friendly if you wanna pull off cool moves. ]
So I've heard. Not sure it's happened to anyone yet, but the gems call it 'chrysalis,' when someone burns through all of their manna. Doesn't sound pleasant at all.
[ Gonna need extra verstone to balance all that black mana you're getting, pal. ]
Your guess is as good as mine as to the magic. I'm no spellcaster myself. But as to your question of a training hall... none that I know of, at least not yet. Perhaps one of the other gembonded may have found something, but as of yet... I'm afraid I don't think such a place exists.
I've only heard tell of it, and I've decided I'd quite like to keep from experiencing that. There's some things better left to my imagination.
[There's a faint noise of disappointment at that. Oh, but he has students here though!]
It will be hard to keep up with lessons, should the students that I have here wish to continue their lessons... It'd be a shame to allow their education to fall to the wayside.
... Perhaps for now it is the best however, I'd rather not risk depleting all of my manna. I've still not gotten a handle upon it's proper management here, 'tis a far smaller pool than aether.
I ought... find those who would not mind creating manna with me as well, before I begin to use my magics as I once did.
[ Of course, it helps that Ardbert doesn't use his manna much, so he doesn't think much of it. ]
You'd only hurt yourself if you started without getting a lay for land, so to speak.
[ He shrugs. ]
There's plenty others who care not who they synchronize with. I'm quite alright with hand-holding and the like, you'll find that the city lends itself quite easily to either proclivity.
Hand holding does well for the minor amounts of manna that I might use throughout my day, 'tis true. But I fear if I wish to use my magic properly, I'll have to find a more efficient method of generating it quickly.
[There's a pause... and a sheepish cough.]
Not that I would ever press upon you such a request, sir! 'Tis but thinking aloud, take it not as a question but rather an acknowledgement. I wouldn't ever assume.
[ Ardbert chuckles, waving off X'ruhn's more awkward concerns. It's ok buddy, he's been there. ]
It's nothing to be ashamed of, I assure you.
[ Certainly he'd... gotten a bit looser in that sense, certainly when those changes came about. But he doesn't need to tell that to some mystel he just met. ]
Please rest assured that I am flattered. And perhaps should we get to know each other better, I would be... honored to synchronize with you. At a later date.
[ He's not taking it off the table!! It's just gotta be, you know, casual. ]
[It's awkward it's really awkward, he really would never just wander up to someone and drop a suggestion like that on their lap out of nowhere, he's too old for that.]
Should we know each other better, I would be inclined to consider it of course, at whatever convenience you might have. I felt it but necessary to tell you that it isn't an expectation, I was not propositioning you so early.
[Eventually, sure! There was no hesitation to make that known, as a potential eventual thing! That's fine!]
... I ought change the subject, I feel as if I'm digging a hole.
[ Ardbert laughs. Yes, things are definitely awkward. He's been there... He'll be happy to help X'ruhn off the hook from this conversation. He's not sure how much longer he can go on about it either... ]
Perhaps we should. Have you found a place to live yet?
